It is proposed to construct a series of rain garden features from Park Road continuing on to Brettenham Road.

The aim of the scheme is to:

  • Make Brettenham Road and Park Road a greener and safer for schools children and surrounding residents
  • Connect a ‘green’ walking and cycling route from Angel Gardens to Pymmes Park. This route continues on the Moore Brook Green Link, which connects Pymmes Park to Winchmore Hill
  • Reduce flood risk, improve water quality and the natural environment

Rain gardens are a type of sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) which mimic natural drainage. They help to:

  • Improve the water quality of runoff by filtering out pollutants before entering the nearest river
  • Reduce flood risk by slowing the flow and storing runoff
  • Enhance biodiversity in the area with planting, which helps improve air quality and urban cooling

The project aligns with the Edmonton Green Quieter Neighbourhood, being delivered by the Council's Journeys and Places programme, which proposes to introduce a School Street on Brettenham Road.

The consultation for Brettenham Road & Park Road Rain Gardens begins on 16th September where documents relating to the scheme will become available. We also encourage residents to complete a questionnaire to gauge your views on the project. This will also be available on 16th September.
