Curate Enfield: First three public art commissions are live!

Following an open call-out to artists, designers and creatives across Enfield and beyond, 51 submissions were received for the first three Curate Enfield public art projects in Angel Edmonton, Enfield Town and Palmers Green:

Curate Enfield Angel Edmonton

Artist Rafael Klein has been selected to create a sculptural work outside Silver Street Station, which will create a sense of welcome for residents and visitors as they arrive into the area. Informed by the town centre's traditional name of 'the Angel,' the sculpture aims to inspire thoughts of lightness and flight. Residents from Angel Edmonton have been participating in creative workshops to help develop this piece of public art by creating text and images which will be embedded into the final sculpture, which is due to be completed Autumn this year.

Curate Enfield Town

Artist Anna Nicolo has been selected to create a colourful and vibrant mural for the alleyway between the Diechmann and Marks & Spencer stores in Palace Gardens Shopping Centre in Enfield Town. The mural will be inspired by Enfield’s heritage as a market town, its historical landmarks, industry and innovations; and reference the contemporary energy of the shopping centre. Local residents and communities will be invited to participate in creative workshops to actively identify stories, events and buildings they would like to see portrayed in the mural and which best represent Enfield Town and dates for these to be announced soon.

Curate Palmers Green

The Matchbox Collective have been selected to create a series of vibrant, eye-catching murals inspired by the cultural diversity, local nature and biodiversity of Palmers Green, which will be located on various walls in the Green Lanes area. The murals will be co-created and designed with local residents, who will participate in workshops to generate ideas for their content, and help create the artworks. The murals will create an arts trail connecting different parts of the town centre and celebrating the unique identity of Palmers Green.
