Edmonton Green Photo Walk

The Journeys and Places team, in collaboration with architects Jas Bhalla Works, led a photo walk with some of the young people from Edmonton Green, supported by NYCC and Exodus Youth Worx. Using disposable film cameras, the group captured places they value and areas they feel could be improved. The walk followed a route from the shopping centre, down Church Street, across The Green and back along the Broadway.

The walk provided good insight into how young people experience the town centre in Edmonton Green. They shared ideas about what they would like to see more of in the area, including places to socialise, safer and more walkable routes, murals and civic spaces like those found in other parts of London, such as Euston and Hackney. Improving safety across the area was a consistent theme, which everyone felt was important.

The group also talked about little gems in the area, such as Kervan's restaurant, the Pet mural on Church Street and the chicken shops, which serve as social spaces to gather. These insights will help shape the long-term strategy for Edmonton Green that Jas Bhalla Works are developing.

The photo walk was followed by a second session at NYCC after the film was developed. Together, the group reviewed over 200 photographs and selected their favourite 30, reflecting what matters most to them about the area.
