In response to a flooding event which affected properties in the area in 2024, Enfield Council’s Blue & Green Infrastructure Team are proposing to create some wetlands to act as flood storage areas in the southern corner of the Playing Fields. These wetlands will be located in an area to ensure that no pitches or run-off areas within the park will be affected and will have shallow graded slopes, with a depth of 300mm of water around the edges in day-to-day conditions. They will be planted up with native wetland plants such as common reed, purple loosestrife and yellow frag iris.

When there is heavy rain, the playing fields can become saturated and water runs quickly off the land, into this southern corner of the park where the wetlands are proposed. The drains can become overwhelmed meaning water has nowhere to go, leading to flooding. The wetlands will help store this water, slowly releasing it back into the drainage system.

There are opportunities to create:

  • Amenity features
  • Interpretation features
  • Informal footpaths through wetlands
  • Wildflower meadows

....and more. We are open to suggestions.

Please review our outline design and engagement documents available to download on this page.

Your feedback will shape the project which is planned for delivery in 2026.

Hello,
My name is Anna and I live at Cobham Close building. I received a leaflet in my mailbox about Enfield Playing Field Park. The leaflet writes that you proposing to create some wetlands , which be in frond of our building.
First of all, we already have a high-level humidity. In case , you will do a wetland it wil go up more. We will need to spend more money to hold out homes dry.
Additionally, We had a lot of mosquitoes last month, especial large mosquitoes. Every time we opened the door, they came in. The number of insects will increase .
Finally, many people play football in this aera. Many balls will throw in the pond and noone could take it from the water. Also, the rubbish will be in the pond,  which the air send their , they will stay in.
I cannot find anything positive, if you will do it next to our homes. Personal, I will search to move in an other aera.
Regards,
Anna

I live in the flats right opposite these proposed wetlands. With this proposal comes added risks (flood water coming into our homes, property damage over time, vermin, stagnant water breeding more mosquitos and other insects etc) . What impact will this have on us and what are your mitigation measures and have you produced a risk register for public consultation? A resident consultation event would be beneficial and considerate.
