Statutory Consultation Now Open for Phase 2 of the New River to Brick Lane Walking and Cycling Route
In January 2024, we invited residents to share their ideas and feedback on Enfield Council’s proposals for Phase 2 of the walking and cycling route from the New River (at the Tenniswood Road bridge) to Cycleway 1 (Hertford Road) via Brick Lane. This engagement formed part of the Journeys and Places programme and helped shape the design now being proposed.
The draft Traffic Order TG52/1591 for Phase 2 has now been published, and we are inviting residents, businesses, and other stakeholders to take part in the statutory consultation.
About the Project
The New River to Brick Lane project aims to create a quiet cycleway and improve conditions for people walking, wheeling, and cycling. Phase 1 was implemented in 2024 following community engagement and statutory consultation. Delivered improvements included:
- Enhanced entrances to Soldiers Alleyway and the pathway from Oldbury Road to the A10
- Improved shared paths and cycle demarcations
- Two new build-outs with rain gardens on Brick Lane
- Cycle-friendly upgrades to speed humps on Brick Lane
Phase 2 of the project is now being proposed and includes:
- Additional rain gardens along Brick Lane
- Improvements to the Lincoln Road/Hertford Road junction to provide a safer cycling connection to Cycleway 1
- New continuous footways on side streets including Gough Road, Wolsley Road, Barnard Road, Orchardleigh Avenue, Yeoman’s Way, and Cuba Drive
- Removal of footway parking at several junctions along Brick Lane
- Junction improvements at Brick Lane/Hammond Road and Brick Lane/Mapleton Road
A map of the proposed interventions is available on the project page, along with the draft Traffic Order:
