Devonshire Square is launched!

Devonshire Square was officially launched on Saturday 24 May. The launch event welcomed over one hundred people on to the new square and included an official ribbon-cutting ceremony performed by the new Mayor of Enfield, Cllr Margaret Greer, with welcoming remarks from Cllr Sabri Ozaydin, Enfield Council's Cabinet Member for Environment and Placemaking. Local cafes Le Grand Jour and Olive Bakery provided delicious sweet and savoury refreshments, while attendees were entertained by a beautiful set from local renowned band Lost Chimes. There was also an opportunity to promote the new Enfield Tool Exchange - coming soon to Palmers Green!
Commissioned by Journeys and Places, Devonshire Square is a welcoming new space that has been shaped by extensive collaboration and consultation with residents, local schools, and community groups over several years. The project will transform this area just off the high street into a vibrant, flexible space that will host everything from markets and live performances to quiet moments of rest and connection. Key community partners have been instrumental in bringing the project to life, including Better Streets and the Palmers Green Action Team.

Key features of the Square include new greening areas that support biodiversity, sustainable drainage systems, informal seating, and mosaic artworks co-designed by students at Laurel Park School. The space also includes infrastructure such as power supply to enable a wide range of community-led events and activities. Hazelwood Primary School’s year two pupils assisted with the planting of the new green areas and will help maintain these going forward.
The launch marked the beginning of a summer programme curated by Arbeit Studios, featuring workshops, markets, wellness sessions, DJ sets, and live performances between 7 June and 20 July. For further details about this summer programme and to book tickets, please visit this link.
Devonshire Square has been made possible through majority funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and the Mayor of London. Enfield Council committed to create a culture place community facility in each of the borough’s main town centres and to invest in and support our vibrant high streets, bringing longer-term transformational change to Enfield.
