Road Safety Improvements on Fore Street
Enfield Council is proposing road safety improvements on Fore Street (A1010) between Park Road and Fairfield Road in Edmonton.
Fore Street is a busy high street and an important route for buses, pedestrians and people cycling. The proposals aim to improve visibility, reduce safety risks and make it safer and easier for people to cross the road and move around the area.
We are inviting residents, businesses and visitors to view the proposals and share their feedback.
Why improvements are being considered
A review of collision data from 2019 to 2024 indicates that a number of collisions have occurred along Fore Street, particularly in the section between Park Road and Fairfield Road. In this area, visibility between road users can be reduced and where people often cross the road outside of formal crossing points. Parked vehicles, traffic queuing and unclear road markings can sometimes make it harder for people walking and drivers to see each other.
The proposed improvements focus on practical measures that can help address these issues and improve safety along this section of Fore Street. These include changes to some crossing points, new refuge islands to help people cross in stages, small footway build-outs to shorten crossing distances and improved road surface treatments to help vehicles stop more effectively.
Together, these measures aim to make it safer and easier for people to cross the road, improve visibility for everyone using the street and support safer movement along this busy high street.
