Community House in Edmonton Officially Launches Following Major Refurbishment

On Wednesday 18 February, tenants and community members came together to celebrate the official launch of the newly refurbished Community House in Edmonton, as well as the progress made over the past year of the Shaping Edmonton programme. The project is part of the Shaping Edmonton programme which is delivering improvements across Edmonton for a welcoming and thriving Edmonton, where everyone feels welcome, represented, and celebrated. It has been delivered by Enfield Council officers across Property and Transport, Climate and Place teams.

Guests explored the transformed building, heard from the artists behind the new ground floor murals and enjoyed refreshments in the Snack ’n’ Chat Café. We welcomed Cllr Ergin Erbil, Leader of the Council, who spoke about the importance of continued investment in Edmonton and how improving local spaces helps strengthen community pride, opportunity and wellbeing.

Sam Neal and Stephanie van den Broek from the project team shared how over the past year Community House has been reimagined as a brighter, more accessible and welcoming space for everyone. The redesign was shaped in collaboration with tenants and user groups, ensuring colours, wayfinding and the new murals reflect the identity and creativity of the community while making the building easier and more intuitive to use. The community also came up with the new room names and name of the upgraded cafe: Snack 'n' Chat Café.

Across the building, improvements include fresh décor, new flooring, upgraded heating and ventilation, safer and more accessible facilities, and practical, durable furnishings. The ground floor has been fully refurbished, including the reception, meeting rooms and community café, alongside an upgraded kitchen to support training and food activities, a new enclosed computer room, improved physiotherapy rooms and new fully accessible toilets.

We also welcomed the Disability Resource Centre, which supports disabled people to learn new skills, access wellbeing activities and build friendships. They now operate the Snack ’n’ Chat Café, open Monday to Friday, already becoming a vibrant hub in Community House.

On the first floor, community rooms have been refurbished, the sensory room upgraded, new tea stations installed, and a new glass floor introduced over the light well, with lift refurbishment underway. The second floor has been fully redecorated with enhanced fire safety and lift upgrades completing the works. Community Link will soon move in to this space continuing their service in providing personalised support to adults with learning disabilities and promote independence and confidence.

Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate this exciting new chapter for Community House.
