New crossing to Silver Street Station now open

We're pleased to announce that the new pedestrian crossing on Sterling Way is now open.

Delivered in partnership between Enfield Council and Transport for London (TfL), the crossing provides a safer, more accessible route for people walking, wheeling and cycling across Sterling Way, close to Silver Street London Overground station. The scheme was designed to improve connections between local homes, businesses, public transport and other key destinations in the area.

The completed project includes a new signal-controlled toucan crossing, a pedestrian island and improved cycling links, creating a dedicated route across this busy section of road. The crossing makes it easier for residents, commuters and visitors to travel through the area safely and comfortably, while supporting more sustainable and active travel choices.

The scheme also delivered wider improvements around the crossing, including changes to parking and loading arrangements to better serve local businesses and road users.

This new crossing supports the Mayor of London's Vision Zero commitment to eliminate death and serious injuries from London's transport network by 2041. It also contributes to Enfield Council's wider ambitions to create safer streets and encourage healthier, more sustainable ways to travel.

The crossing has been delivered through Enfield Council's Shaping Edmonton programme, funded by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government. Shaping Edmonton is helping to create a greener, healthier and more inclusive Edmonton, where everyone feels welcome, represented and able to thrive.
