The consultation of November 2021 has been closed. When revised plans are drawn up, further information will be distributed across the community and a new consultation page will be created.

The development of new housing and amenities in the Alma Road and South Street area of Ponders End brings new challenges in providing a fair distribution of parking space amongst residents. But it also offers the opportunity and funding to introduce zonal controls across a wider area to protect vulnerable streets from unwanted commuter parking or unregulated storage of surplus vehicles.

The Council is interested in your views on the parking zone proposals set out in our leaflet.

Comments should be submitted by Friday 18 March 2022.

  • Why is this needed?

The development of new housing and amenities in the Alma Road and South Street area of Ponders End brings new challenges in providing a fair distribution of parking space amongst residents.

Please complete our survey to submit your views on the proposal for zonal parking controls.

    How will it help?

A CPZ is an area where residents are given parking priority over other drivers through a permit system. Permits can only be purchased for vehicles registered to homes within the boundary line. A permit system encourages residents within the zone to dispose of, or store elsewhere, vehicles they seldom use. It discourages any given household from storing excessive numbers of vehicles on the street and favours owners of smaller cars, reflecting that they take up less space. The overall effect is to free up more space for those vehicles that are in regular use by households and to provide more gaps for occasional kerbside events, such as grocery deliveries.

Parking controls could operate all week from as long as 8am to 10pm. The possible zone extents are shown on the accompanying plan.
