Under the Jet Plane Sky: a new public artwork in Angel Gardens
We are delighted to announce a beautiful new addition to Upper Edmonton's every expanding collection of vibrant public art!
Under the Jet Plane Sky created by Edmonton-based ceramic artist Owen Wall, is a celebration of the quiet determination of small-scale creative industry that exists within Enfield today. The artwork is installed on a former WW2 anti-tank block situated in Angel Gardens, and provides additional interpretation of the history of this historical artefact. Under the Jet Plane Sky was created as part of Enfield’s recent Festival of Industry programme, celebrating Enfield's rich industrial heritage and exploring it's present and future industrial identity, and is supported by Arts Council England.
Owen Wall worked with Edmonton arts organisation Doodle Designs to deliver workshops with children and young people from Aylward Academy, Woodpecker and Churchfield Schools, and Exodus Youth Worx. Workshop participants created their own tile-artworks using a wax resist technique. The workshops inspired the creation of the tiles in Owen's artwork, which were handmade and glazed using the same technique in the artist's studio.
Under the Jet Plane Sky was launched in Angel Gardens on 26 May, alongside the launch of An Angel for Edmonton artwork, commissioned through the Curate Enfield public art programme and supported by Arts Council England and UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
