Representation, Opportunity, Forum
The Journeys & Places Team have been engaging with the community of Angel Edmonton to understand their aspirations for the town centre and to develop a Vision and Action Plan to support its future success.
Angel Edmonton received part of £11.9m of funding from the Ministry of Housing and Local Communities which is supporting a number of place shaping projects to be delivered across Upper Edmonton and Edmonton Green. Further information on the programme can be found here: Shaping Edmonton | Let's Talk Enfield
A Diverse and Local Town Centre
Angel Edmonton is located in the south of the borough, close to the border with Haringey. It is served by Silver Street London Overground station. Commercial activity is centred on Fore Street, a well-used local high street with a significant proportion of independent shops and businesses, whose broad offer reflects the cultural diversity of the neighbourhood. The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and White Hart Land Overground station are approximately 0.5 km to the south.
Town Centre Vision
From a place of retail transaction to a future town centre defined by the interaction of its brilliantly diverse communities. Filled with spaces and offers that celebrate and brings together all, including those arriving through new development.
Latest Action Plan
Based on engagement with the community and analysis of town centre data, we have developed a series of priority actions which make up the Angel Edmonton Town Centre Action Plan. To date we have delivered the following projects, which have been funded by The Mayor of London's Good Growth funding:
Renovating Fore Street Library and relaunching this as Fore Street Living Room Library: a community and cultural space designed to support a range of uses and activities led by local residents and communities.
The launch and completion of Angel Yard: 32 new workspaces supporting emerging local businesses and operated by Launch-it (External link)- an enterprise charity dedicated to supporting young creatives & innovators wanting to start or grow a business.
Fore Street Murals(External link) - a series of vibrant and ambitious public artworks reanimating the high street and co-created with local residents, schools and community groups.
Fore Street for All(External link) community project, supported by Enfield Council is a network and programme led by Residents of Angel Edmonton Community Together and Fisher Cheng Architects. Fore Street for All were awarded £200,000 in funding from the Mayor’s High Streets for All Challenge(External link)(External link) to develop and deliver an arts and cultural programme, foster a much needed night-time economy in and around Fore Street and invigorate the local high street.
The Town Centre Action Plan for Angel Edmonton was published in 2022, and is intended to be a live document which we will continue to refine and update through ongoing engagement with the community. We are commissioning a new update of this plan, which will be launched in early spring 2024.
