Enfield Council is proposing flood alleviation and playground improvements at Bullsmoor Lane Park. The scheme aims to reduce surface water flood risk to nearby homes by lowering sections of the park to temporarily store water during heavy rainfall and introduce more landscaped and green areas. At the same time, the existing playground equipment will be replaced with new, similar equipment to create a refreshed, greener and more accessible space for the community.
The proposal includes the following suggested improvements to the site and surrounding area:
Upgrade of the current play equipment whilst retaining the main features of the playground.
Installation of natural play features, such as stepping logs and boulders to encourage imaginative and active play
Installation of new footpaths including gently sloping ramps and steps to improve access and better connect the playground with nearby homes
Lowering of the playground ground level to help reduce localise flooding, while also improving step-free access for disabled users and those with pushchairs
Enhancement of the landscape though shrub planting and the introduction of more trees.
Removal of obstructive features such as railings to create a more open, accessible and welcoming space for the local community
Change of hard surfaced areas to green spaces
These changes are part of a wider blue-green infrastructure approach, where water is managed more naturally and public spaces are enhanced for everyday community use.
