FAQs
Who is paying for the Bus Priority projects?
Bus Priority projects are funded by Transport for London (TfL) and other dedicated grant funds. The funds allocated by grants are designated for specific purposes, specifically aimed at improving bus infrastructure and services.
These funds must be exclusively used for the development of a safe, accessible and reliable public transport network.
Consequently, they cannot be used for other purposes. Failure to utilise the funds for this purpose would result in their reallocation to other boroughs or projects with similar Public Transport objectives and would be a missed opportunity to invest in local infrastructure and improvements.
How have the locations selected for Bus Priority projects been chosen?
The locations for Bus Priority projects within the London Borough of Enfield have been identified based on evidence-led analysis in collaboration with Transport for London (TfL). Sites are selected using data on bus delays, journey time reliability, passenger demand, and congestion levels.
Additional factors such as road safety, the potential to improve public transport accessibility, and alignment with local and regional transport strategies are also considered. This approach ensures that investment is directed to locations where improvements will deliver the greatest benefits for bus users and the wider community.
How will this impact local businesses?
Public transport, particularly buses, plays a vital role in the London Borough of Enfield. They are the lifeblood of the Borough, connecting communities both within and beyond its boundaries. Buses are one of the most space-efficient forms of transport and help bridge gaps in the wider public transport network.
For many people, travelling by bus is the most important ways of travelling to local shops and services. By improving the reliability of the public transport system, we can make it easier and more convenient for residents and visitors to access high streets and ultimately supporting local businesses and encouraging more footfall in the area.
How will congestion, parking and loading be impacted by these changes?
The London Borough of Enfield aims to minimise any significant impact on parking, loading, and congestion. However, some local adjustments may be required to facilitate the delivery of future bus priority improvements.
Each scheme will be assessed on an individual basis, supported by a detailed benefits analysis and a traffic impact assessment. These assessments will determine the most appropriate form of intervention for each location, ensuring that any necessary changes are implemented with the least possible disruption to residents, businesses, and stakeholders.
