World Car Free Day is a global event with the vision for London being for: ‘A day to put people first on London’s streets’. More information on the London wide event can be found on the GLA website here.
This year Car Free Day will be held on Sunday 22nd September 2019 From 1pm to 4pm. Help us celebrate Car Free Day by making your area a place better suited for cycling and walking activities. We have lots of exciting things planned for Raynham Road including:
Beryl bike share - have a ride on our public hire bikes
Dr Bike - get your bikes checked and fixed for free
Cycle training - can't ride? Try one of our taster sessions
Health trainers - health check and advice for healthy living
Smoothie bike - make your own delicious smoothies
To do this some roads will need to be closed to cars, vans and lorries for a few hours in the afternoon, although people who live in them will be able to drive in and out. The roads that will be closed are:
Cross Street - closed to all traffic
Raynham Road - east and north access for residents only
Wakefield Street - residents only northbound
Please see the map below for the locations of the closures.
By doing this simple thing you can experience a quieter, cleaner place to live, meet your neighbours and try new things.
We would love to hear your ideas about the activities you would like to see in your area for Car Free Day. Other Car Free Day activities have included jumping castles, pop-up playgrounds, coffee carts, bike hire and fitness activities. The opportunities are endless! Share your ideas with us by 31st August using the ideas tool below.
