Farewell to the Four Elements Art Crossing in Enfield Town

The Four Elements Art Crossing in Enfield Town was created by Hasan Bölücek and was one of five ‘Art at Our Feet’ temporary ‘art crossings’ commissioned by Enfield Council, as part of the Enjoy Enfield Enjoy Summer of Arts programme in 2020. The artwork has been enjoyed by residents and visitors and introduced some vibrant colour to Enfield Town.

Following consultation with key stakeholders, communities, residents and businesses, the construction of Phase 2A of the Enfield Town Liveable Neighbourhood project will commence in October 2025 and will include a new and improved pedestrian crossing on a raised table between the Market Square and the shopping centre. The new crossing will increase accessibility and safety for a range of users. This will mean the removal of The Four Elements artwork, which was intended to be temporary and exhibited for a finite period.

Over the last three years, Journeys and Places has introduced four major public artworks into Enfield Town Centre, including A Stroll Through Enfield Town mural in Palace Gardens Shopping Centre, The Stepping Posts and River Path in Saddlers Square, and the To Autumn mural at Enfield Town Library. Phase 2 and future phases of ETLN will also commission additional public art.
