Connection, Celebration, Culture

The Town Centres Development Team have been engaging with the community of Enfield Town to understand their aspirations for the town centre and to develop a Vision and Action Plan to support its future success.

Enfield's Historic Market Town

Enfield Town is located in the heart of Enfield and is the largest town centre in the borough and is a historic market town, home to a market that was first established in 1303 and is still operational today.

Enfield Town is also home to 7% of the borough’s jobs and 8% of businesses, making it the largest economy of our five priority town centres. Employment is predominantly in the retail and public administration sectors, driven by the large number of high street shops and the Council offices.

Town Centre Vision

"A focal point for the borough: the embodiment of the modern-day market town. A place with a strong identity which celebrates the diversity of the borough through commerce, culture and heritage."

Latest Action Plan

Based on engagement with the community and analysis of town centre data, we have developed a series of priority actions which make up the Enfield Town Centre Action Plan. Over the short and long term, we will be delivering projects which include:

  • Continuation of outdoor trading and cultural activation on Fountain Island
  • A cultural programme of outdoor events at Library Green
  • Town centre repairs and public realm improvements

The Action Plan is intended to be a live document which we will continue to refine and update through ongoing engagement with the community.

Please input your ideas for future town centre projects on the map below and if you have any feedback or questions about your town centre’s action plan contact the Town Centre Development Team at towncentres@enfield.gov.uk.
