Installation of char.gy lamp post EV chargers
We’re pleased to share that Enfield Council has now begun installing the first tranche of Char.gy electric vehicle (EV) chargers on lamp columns across the borough.
Following consultation, the decision was made to proceed with installation which commenced in June, marking an important milestone in delivering our commitment to expand local EV charging infrastructure. Our delivery partner, Char.gy, is leading the rollout, with around 15 chargers expected to be installed each day as part of this initial phase. A summary of comments received and the council's response can be found here.
This programme will see up to 1,000 new charge points installed on existing streetlight columns, making it easier for residents, particularly those without access to off-street parking, to charge their vehicles close to home. These chargers are designed to be low-cost and low-speed, ideal for overnight or long-stay charging. By using existing infrastructure, the rollout also helps to minimise street clutter and reduce installation costs.
We are aiming to install all 1,000 chargers, subject to consultation and subsequent decisions to proceed for each batch of locations. As outlined previously, locations are being identified and consulted on in stages to ensure residents can review proposals in their area and share feedback before installations go ahead.
This rollout forms part of our wider ambition to create a comprehensive and accessible EV charging network, helping support cleaner air, reduce carbon emissions and enable more residents to make the switch to electric vehicles.
We’ll continue to keep residents updated as installation progresses and as further consultation batches are launched. In the meantime, residents can still suggest locations for future charge points here.
