Project update May 2025

Southgate Circus to Great Cambridge Junction Walking and Cycling Route is being delivered alongside another nearby project; Green Lanes / Hedge Lane / Bourne Hill Walking Improvements. This project will deliver improvements to a key junction to deliver new crossings and improve safety for people walking and cycling.

A joint assessment has been undertaken to understand the impact of implementing both projects at the same time. Following this assessment, the decision has been made to progress the improvements of Green Lanes / Hedge Lane / Bourne Hill junction first, which prioritises safety of people walking in the area and follows feedback from local residents and businesses over recent years.

Southgate Circus to Great Cambridge Junction Walking and Cycling Route will be paused until this project is delivered. This pause will allow for time to assess the changes that the junction improvements will make to safety and traffic flows in the Palmers Green area. Delivering each project in sequence will protect local bus services and ensure that we are able to design a high-quality route that is safe and accessible for all road users.

It is anticipated that work to progress the Southgate Circus to Great Cambridge Junction Walking and Cycling Route will restart in late-2026 following the completion of the junction upgrade and updated assessment.
