The Town Centres Development Team have been engaging with the community of Angel Edmonton to understand their aspirations for the town centre and to develop a Vision and Action Plan to support its future success.
Enfield Diverse and Local Town Centre
Angel Edmonton is located in the south of the borough, close to the border with Haringey. It is served by Silver Street London Overground station. Commercial activity is centred on Fore Street, a well-used local high street with a significant proportion of independents whose broad offer reflects the cultural diversity of the neighbourhood. The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and White Hart Land Overground station are approximately 0.5 km to the south.
Town Centre Vision
From a place of retail transaction to a future town centre defined by the interaction of its brilliantly diverse communities. Filled with spaces and offers that celebrate and brings together all, including those arriving through new development.
Latest Action Plan
Based on engagement with the community and analysis of town centre data, we have developed a series of priority actions which make up the Angel Edmonton Town Centre Action Plan. Over the short and long term, we will be delivering projects which include:
Refurbishing Fore Street Library to deliver a community ‘living room’ which can be used for a range of uses
Delivering workspace at Angel Yard which will support 32 local young businesses
Developing public realm and improvements to Leeds Street Market

Enfield Council has awarded over £100,000 to community heritage projects as part of a ‘Stories of Enfield’ programme funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. ‘Stories of Enfield’ has brought together groups from across the borough to share ideas about Enfield’s heritage and to receive training in planning and delivering cultural heritage work.
A total of 32 groups put forward ideas and a steering group including local residents selected the best projects to take forward. In all, 13 community heritage projects will receive National Lottery funding through the scheme, all of which will explore aspects of Enfield’s heritage and provide exciting opportunities for borough residents.
The projects reflect the rich and diverse identity of Enfield, including the histories of different cultural groups, buildings, parks and rivers. Residents will have the opportunity to attend story telling sessions, follow poetry and art trails, visit exhibitions, watch a new short film about and take part in learning about and celebrating the borough’s history.

In response to Enfield and the rest of London being placed in Tier 4 restrictions, COVID-19 marshals have been reintroduced. So far, marshals have visited more than 4,600 businesses and dispersed 478 groups across Enfield in just one month to ensure the current lockdown rules are being followed.

Enfield Council has signed an agreement with the Mayor of London which means £2.2m will be spent to deliver major regeneration works in Edmonton and create a better town centre. The Council decided on 20 October to match fund the £1.1m it has been awarded from the Good Growth Fund – the Greater London Authority’s £70million programme designed to support growth and community development in London.
The decision means the cash can now be used to improve the look and feel of Angel Edmonton, provide a community hub with better library services, 30 affordable workspaces to increase employment and skills in the area, and a school street to help improve air quality.
The project will also help address concerns raised by the community and the Council is already working closely with local partners, community groups and businesses to make sure the work carried out meets the needs of people who live and work in the area.Read more here.

Cash raised from Enfield Council’s flagship £6 billion Meridian Water project is being spent on street cleaning in Edmonton to improve the quality of residents’ lives. A dedicated clean-up team is now in place which will regularly patrol the area around Fore Street and the Joyce and Snells estate as part of wider efforts by the Council to tackle problems identified by residents and businesses.
The money funds the new dedicated cleaning team and this programme will be expanded to tackle crime and disorder – another issue raised as a concern by people living and working in the borough. This will enable the recruitment of specialist officers to tackle anti-social behaviour in the area.

The Mayor of London's Good Growth Fund has allocated £1.1 million to a local regeneration project in Angel Edmonton. The project focuses on Fore Street and the fund will go towards a number of projects and will be match-funded by Enfield Council.
The project will comprise of an 'urban room' for community engagement, the creation of low-cost office and retail space in disused garages and a laundry yard and improvements in targeted areas along Fore Street. The project also includes a programme of business support, the creation of employment and skills opportunities and the development of a strategic area plan.

This year, we will be installing a range festive lighting in Enfield Town including a Christmas tree, cross street lighting and lamp-post mounted lights to help bring festive spirit to the town centre. The official light switch ons will be taking place in Palmers Green on Thursday 28 November 2019 at 4pm.
