During Summer 2024, Enfield Council’s Place Shaping Team, part of Journeys and Places, worked with Fisher Cheng Architects and the Edmonton community to create a shared vision for The Green. Together, they co-designed and built a temporary pavilion.
The programme featured creative workshops for young people and families, including guided nature walks, den-building, live music, poetry, theatre, and wellbeing sessions. These activities were run in partnership with local groups Doodle Design, Exodus Youth Worx and Northside Youth.
Over 1,000 people attended these events helping to explore ways to bring new life to The Green and shape the Pavilion’s design.
Completed in June ’24, the Pavilion has hosted a summer programme of over 60 events, all delivered by local individuals and organisations, becoming a much-loved space by the local community and providing a platform for culture and creativity.
Now adopted as one of Enfield’s five new ‘Culture Places,’ the Pavilion will be co-managed by the Council and local organizations to continue hosting arts, culture, and community events—bringing lasting change to Edmonton.

The design for a temporary Pavilion on The Green, which will be on site for the next 3 years, has been developed by Fisher Cheng with the local community during the engagement events in Summer ’23. The Pavilion is designed as an open structure without perimetral walls and consists of a decked area of approximately 40 sqm to host performance and community activities. Its roof is open but integrates a shading system to offer coverage in Summer. Lighting and an electrical point are provided, to support a wide range of events at any time of the day.
Construction works for the Pavilion will start on The Green in April and will be completed at the beginning of June.
A programme of community and cultural activities will be held in the Pavilion over Summer ’24 to regularly activate the space. This will include the Untold Edmonton Festival, a cultural programme exploring Edmonton’s rich and diverse history supported by Enfield Council and funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
