Edmonton Green The Green Railway Arches

Help us shape the future of The Green, a natural asset at the heart of Edmonton Green!

The Green is located between Edmonton Green Shopping Centre and the railway arches, adjacent to Edmonton Green Station. It has the potential to be a precious resource for the local community and Enfield Council is keen to engage with residents and local stakeholders to develop a future vision for this space to:

  • Enhance the Green-Blue infrastructure of the area with the creation of a riparian habitat
  • Provide Community and Cultural spaces via the co-design of a temporary Pavilion to support community engagement and host events linked to Enfield cultural programmes
  • Explore the restoration of the railway arches as a heritage asset and their potential use in the long-term.

Launch Phase - Summer 2023

The Launch Phase of the project hopes to establish a community-led Statement of Intent for The Green which will be explored across a series of participatory engagement events over Summer 2023.

The outcomes from the Launch Phase will form a brief for the next stage of the project, the Pavilion in The Green to be delivered in summer ’24, and will represent the first step towards achieving the wider project objectives to:

  • Work with local people to animate and make better use of The Green, in its prominent location within one of Enfield’s priority Town Centres.
  • Build up to the creation of an immersive natural environment and expand Enfield’s blue-green infrastructure into a densely developed area.
  • Develop long-term stewardship within the community through engagement and co-design activities in The Green.
  • Layer up with ‘Untold Edmonton’, create opportunities for local heritage, culture and nature to be discussed, celebrated and displayed.
  • Inform the long-term vision for the railway arches via engagement-based activities and interventions.

Thank you to everyone who took part and provided feedback at the Design The Green event on Saturday 5th August. We welcomed over 100 people, sharing the initial design ideas for the forthcoming Pavilion on The Green, which will be installed in Summer 2024. Due to inclement weather, the event was moved into Edmonton Green Library.

The event was curated with young people from Exodus Youthworx, as part of a co-design workshop held at Croylands Youth Centre on 26th July. Doodle Designs and Exodus Youthworx delivered 'The Green Scene' - picnic, games and music while gathering aspirations for the future of The Green, while artist Amaechi Anolue provided entertaining caricatures for local residents.

Here you can find photos from the co-design workshop as well as on the day, and see which emerging pavilion design was most supported.

Thank you to everyone who took part and provided feedback at the Get to know The Green event on Saturday 24th June. We welcomed over 100 people, hearing your thoughts on a range of ideas for Small Interventions, a Community Pavilion, and an Urban Watercourse for the short, mid and long-term vision of The Green.

To get to know The Green, we held nature trails with Rockstone Gardener, which asked you to look again at a range of native species to find a new appreciation of their natural properties such as cow parsley, buttercups, cleavers, nettles and daisies in The Green. These foraged plants formed the basis of the natural paintbrush creative workshops with Doodle Designs, where you could paint your vision of Salmon's Brook onto a map of The Green. A play with clay pavilion workshop encouraged imaginative handmade designs for a place to gather and socialise.

Here you can find photos from the day, and see what ideas were most supported.
