Enfield Council is committed to improving pedestrian provision across the Borough. The Green Lanes / Hedge Lane / Bourne Hill Walking Improvements project will improve pedestrian facilities at the junction. This project sits in a predominantly residential area to the north of Palmers Green and is adjacent to the Fox Lane Area Quieter Neighbourhood (QN).

Currently, Enfield Council is progressing with the Concept Design for a pedestrian crossing improvement scheme at this junction. The Concept Design stage is expected to be completed in Autumn 2025, following the review and approval of the proposed junction modelling by Transport for London (TfL) to ensure that the proposals don’t significantly impact TfL Buses or the wider network.

The proposed improvements include the signalisation of pedestrian crossings on all four arms of the junction, along with enhancements to existing cycling facilities. Additionally, an all-red phase is proposed, during which all vehicular traffic will be stopped at red lights while pedestrians and cyclists will have a green signal.

The improvements will provide a safe and secure junction to encourage more people to choose to walk, wheel and cycle in the borough. The objective is to create a safer and more accessible environment for pedestrians and cyclists.
