This project has now concluded.

Enfield Council has upgraded a section of the A1010 High Street in Ponders End to improve the experience for all road users along the High Street. This follows previous projects that introduced and improved pedestrian and cycling facilities on the A1010. The project area goes from the High Street outside the Ponders End Park to the area on the High Street outside Tesco, opposite Eagle House Surgery. For more details, please see the project overview map located in the Documents section of the project page.

The project delivered the following:

  • Cycle facilities between recently completed projects on the A1010 to the north and south of this area
  • Bus stop improvements along the High Street to provide more room for pedestrians, bus passengers and cyclists
  • Improvements to the condition of the road that was previously aged and in poor condition
  • A 20mph speed limit in the area introduced to improve safety of all road users.

Some loading and parking changes were made in order to facilitate the above improvements. We have engaged with business to ensure their loading needs are understood and feedback received during this engagement informed the designs.

This project has now been implemented.

Following a decision to implement the project, we are now undertaking the construction works.

The construction works have now commenced along Ponders End High Street and will last for approximately 4 months until October 2022.

We have planned the construction with the view to minimise inconvenience to the local community as much as possible. However, during the construction period there will be temporary lane closures, diversions and night closures along the High Street. We can confirm that access to properties along the High Street will be maintained during the construction period. As the works progress, we will be writing to residents and businesses with further information about the construction and traffic management plan specific to their area.

Every effort will be made to keep disruption to a minimum whilst the works are undertaken.

For more information about the project and to view the traffic management plans, please see the document section on the right hand side of the project page: https://letstalk.enfield.gov.uk/PondersEndHighStreet.

Should you have any general queries about the upcoming works or about the project, please contact healthystreets@enfield.gov.uk.

For any specific queries regarding the works on site, please call the number displayed on site to get in touch with the contractors undertaking the works.

    What's new

In September 2021 we wrote to you about Enfield Council’s proposals to make improvements along a section of Ponders End High Street, funded by Transport for London (TfL). Webinars were held during September 2021 to talk about the project, and it was also presented at the Ward Forum in October 2021. Loading-focused engagement with businesses on the High Street also took place in September 2021.

We are now presenting the designs and would like to invite you to provide your comments on these proposals. Anyone can provide comments to this statutory consultation.

The draft traffic orders TG1447 for this project have now been published and the statutory consultation is open until 11.59pm on Wednesday 26 January 2022 where you can make any representations relating to the proposed order or object to the making of the proposed order. Any such objection or any representation must be made in writing by 11.59pm on Wednesday 26 January 2022, quoting the reference TG1447 and must state the grounds on which it is made. Objections or representations can be made in any of the following ways:

You can view the draft traffic orders in the Documents section which can be found on the right hand side of the project page.

Following the statutory consultation, a formal report will be produced summarising comments received. Enfield will use the comments received to make a decision on whether or not to implement the project.

The approval report will be pre-published prior to a decision being made under the London Borough of Enfield constitution and in line with the legal requirements for the type of order used.
