Enfield Council are developing a walking and cycling route which aims to connect Southgate Circus with Edmonton. Costs for the feasibility and concept design of the project are funded by Transport for London (TfL).

It is proposed that the Southgate Circus to Great Cambridge Roundabout Walking and Cycling Route will start at Southgate Circus, extend through the Fox Lane Quieter Neighbourhood, across Green Lanes, through residential streets and connect with the existing cycle pass infrastructure at the Great Cambridge roundabout (A10 Great Cambridge Road junction with A406 North Circular Road).

The development of the Southgate Circus to Great Cambridge Roundabout Walking and Cycling Route will create a vital East-West connection in the area as well as expand the current network of cycle routes within Enfield.

The route will provide a quiet, safe, and secure route to encourage more people to choose to walk, wheel and cycle in the borough. This in turn will bring the benefits of keeping children and adults healthy and fit, reduce motor traffic, and improve air quality.

The Journeys and Places Team would like to express our gratitude to all those who actively participated in the engagement process that took place earlier this year for the Southgate Circus to Great Cambridge Junction Walking and Cycling Route project. The early engagement report is now complete and published on this project page.

Since the engagement period, no further funding has been allocated for this project and it has been put on hold.

Should further funding be allocated, the scheme will be progressed to concept design stage and the ideas and issues raised by residents during the early engagement process will contribute towards the development of these designs. We will post an update on the project page with more information if further funding is allocated for this scheme.

We sincerely appreciate your continued involvement and support in this project.

Due to the Easter Holiday falling within the engagement period, along with a steady flow of comments on the map, Enfield Council have decided to extend the deadline for this engagement. This will enable those who haven't had an opportunity to respond to do so, as well as enable us to gather as many comments from the local community as possible.

The new deadline for this engagement will be Sunday 30 April. Please add your comments by midnight Sunday 30 April 2023 at: https://letstalk.enfield.gov.uk/southgatecircus-gcj/maps/share-your-comments#

We would also like to take the opportunity to apologise for the errors present in the letters from the initial letter drop. If you have any queries, please email journeysandplaces@enfield.gov.uk.

As part of the Journeys and Places programme, Enfield is continuing to develop a network of active travel routes in Enfield to encourage more people to walk and cycle in the borough. As part of this work to expand the active travel network, we are proposing a walking and cycling route from Southgate Circus to Great Cambridge Junction. This route will connect Southgate Circus with the proposed Great Cambridge Junction to Bridport Road Walking and Cycling Route via Fox Lane and Connaught Gardens.

We would like to hear your ideas on the proposed route, including what we should consider when designing it, any issues you think we should know about, and ideas you may have to make it a safe, accessible, and enjoyable walking and cycling route.

    Share your comments

On the project page, you will find a mapping tool where you can place a pin at a location along the route, complete a short survey and provide a comment. Your feedback may range from safety issues that you would like to bring to our attention, to suggesting a suitable location for a crossing point.

Visit the project page to view the route outline and give us your thoughts and ideas on the route. Please add your comments by midnight Sunday 23 April 2023 at: https://letstalk.enfield.gov.uk/southgatecircus-gcj/maps/share-your-comments#

    What’s next?

We will be taking on board the feedback gathered which, along with early monitoring data and information, will inform the designs for the proposed walking and cycling route from Southgate to Great Cambridge Junction. We will develop a proposed plan that will be presented to the community later in 2023. Further development of the design and implementation will be subject to funding and statutory consultation. If you have any queries, please email journeysandplaces@enfield.gov.uk.
