As part of Enfield Council’s Journeys and Places programme, we are reducing the numbers and speeds of motor vehicles that travel through residential-only areas to improve road safety near homes as well as improve the air quality in these local areas.

Through feedback from residents and traffic data in the area, Enfield Council has initiated a project to focus on the Queen Elizabeth Drive, Wynchgate and Park View area.

Enfield Council will apply for funding to progress this project next financial year (from April 2024). We anticipate the project would involve a detailed review of traffic volumes and speeds in the area, gathering of community input of issues in the area, and consideration of potential improvements. The project outcomes will be subject to future funding.

Previous traffic data was collected and analysed under the Fox Lane Area Quieter Neighbourhood project. You can view a copy of the analysis in the Document Library on this page.

Enfield Council’s Journeys & Places team has carried out further investigations in the area following community feedback and public input. We have reviewed the results against expected traffic levels for residential roads. The findings show that traffic volumes and vehicle speeds are broadly in line with what would normally be expected for roads of this type. We've published a report, which includes a summary of the data and our analysis. The Traffic Data Review Report can be found here.

Enfield Council is continuing to explore opportunities to make these roads safer for everyone. This includes the phased introduction of 20mph speed limits (details available here) through the Safer Streets for Enfield initiative, as well as proposals for the New Southgate Station to Palmers Green Station walking and cycling route (details available here). Based on the progress of these initiatives, as well as the findings from the data, there are no further plans to make changes at this time.

The raw data, made up of Automatic Traffic Counts (ATC) and Junction Turning Counts (JTC), can be found in the Document Library on this webpage.

Enfield Council’s Journeys and Places programme has secured funding to carry out further investigations in the Queen Elizabeth Drive, Wynchgate and Park View area. These locations, referred to as Site 2 in the ‘Next steps’ section of the Traffic Monitoring Report conducted for the Fox Lane Area Quieter Neighbourhood project (August 2023), will undergo additional monitoring. You can access the Traffic Monitoring Report (Fox Lane Area QN) – August 2023 in the Document Library on this page.

As part of this study, traffic volumes will be recorded using Automated Traffic Counters (ATCs) and Junction Turning Counts (JTC). The proposed locations for these counters have been informed by previous survey results, community feedback received so far, and the opportunity for further public input.

Enfield Council invites you to share your suggestions on where ATCs and JTCs should be placed within the blue highlighted project area below. If there are specific locations, in addition to the ones proposed on the map below, where you believe monitoring would be beneficial, please email JourneysandPlaces@enfield.gov.uk with your feedback. In order to help Enfield Council to locate the preferred locations please provide a specific post code and reference point. All responses will be reviewed as we finalise the locations for the ATCs and JTCs.

Please submit your feedback by 11:59 PM on Sunday the 27 April 2025.

A map with the proposed ATC and JTC locations is provided below.
