Working together for a welcoming and thriving Edmonton - where everyone feels welcome, represented, and celebrated.

With £11.9 million of funding from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, Enfield Council has a special opportunity to make lasting improvements to the neighbourhood – supporting a more vibrant, attractive, greener, cleaner, and safer place for all.

In collaboration with the community, we’re delivering projects that will improve public spaces and connections, create opportunities, nurture inclusion, support wellbeing, and celebrate Edmonton’s culture and heritage.

What’s happening

Over the next two years we will deliver:

  • More inviting and accessible parks at Florence Hayes Rec and Raynham Green
  • A new play space on the Joyce and Snell’s Estate
  • A more welcoming Fore Street with footway upgrades and resurfaced high street
  • An expanded Leeds Street Market with space for more traders and events
  • A safer pedestrian crossing at Silver Street Station
  • A walking and cycling route linking the area to Meridian Water
  • Better community facilities on the Joyce and Snell’s Estate
  • Enhanced cultural space at Angel Community Centre
  • Refurbished workspaces at Community House

Building on success

This programme is part of significant wider council and government investment in Edmonton and builds on improvements already delivered, including Angel Yard, the Living Room Library, and the Fore Street Murals – projects that have brought new opportunities and pride to the area.

Working in partnership

Alongside the community, we’re working with the Greater London Authority, the Metropolitan Police, and Transport for London to design and deliver this comprehensive programme for Edmonton.

Be part of it

Your ideas and experiences are vital. We’ll be working with residents, businesses, and community groups throughout the programme to make sure these projects reflect local priorities. Visit the Community Room in the Living Room Library on Fore Street, N18 to see what’s planned, take part in workshops, and share your views.

Work to improve Fore Street is due to begin on Monday 2 November 2026 as part of the Shaping Edmonton programme.

The Fore Street Public Welcome Project will renew the pavements between Sterling Way and the borough boundary with Haringey. The works are expected to take approximately 31 weeks, with a break over the Christmas holiday period.

This marks the beginning of wider improvements to Fore Street. Further enhancements are planned next year, including new planting, greening, seating and lighting to make the high street a more attractive place to visit, shop and spend time.

    During construction

Work will generally take place between 8am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.

Sections of pavement will temporarily close as work progresses, with signed walking routes provided. Access to homes and businesses will be maintained, although there will be some noise from construction machinery and vehicles.

We will work with our contractor to minimise disruption and keep people moving safely while the improvements are carried out.

For questions about the construction works, contact mailto:PLO@KensonHighways.com.

Refurbishment works at Angel Community Centre begin on Monday 19 October, marking an exciting milestone in plans to improve the centre for the local community.

Ahead of the works, local residents recently came together for a fabric collage workshop, creating designs that will help inspire the final curtain design for the newly refurbished hall. The workshop was followed by a popular family film screening, bringing families together to enjoy the centre as a space for creative and community activities.

The refurbishment will improve around 630 square metres of existing community space. A vacant 109 square metre former caretaker’s flat will also be converted into community office accommodation that can be hired.

    Improvements include:

    • a new entrance canopy
    • improvements to windows to bring more natural light into the new workspace
    • solar shading to improve overheating
    • upgraded facilities in the main hall, supporting activities such as community film screenings
    • improved storage.

The works will be phased to minimise disruption to existing uses of the centre during construction.

Construction will generally take place during the following hours:

    • Monday to Friday: 8am to 6pm
    • Saturday: 8am to 1pm

These improvements will provide better facilities for people who already use Angel Community Centre as well as creating more opportunities for the wider community to use and enjoy the space.

Through community events, conversations, dance performances and our online survey, we heard strong support for a greener, safer and more welcoming high street.

Trees, planting and rain gardens were among the most popular ideas, alongside improvements to paving, crossings, lighting and accessibility. People also welcomed opportunities to sit, rest and spend time in the area, while highlighting the importance of keeping public spaces clean, well maintained and safe.

Our engagement events celebrated the cultures, traditions and stories that make Angel Edmonton unique. Dance performances helped bring people together and inspired conversations about local identity, public art and how Fore Street can become a place that reflects the community it serves.

The feedback received will help shape the next stage of the project as we continue working with local people to create a greener, safer and more vibrant Fore Street.

We're pleased to announce that the new pedestrian crossing on Sterling Way is now open.

Delivered in partnership between Enfield Council and Transport for London (TfL), the crossing provides a safer, more accessible route for people walking, wheeling and cycling across Sterling Way, close to Silver Street London Overground station. The scheme was designed to improve connections between local homes, businesses, public transport and other key destinations in the area.

The completed project includes a new signal-controlled toucan crossing, a pedestrian island and improved cycling links, creating a dedicated route across this busy section of road. The crossing makes it easier for residents, commuters and visitors to travel through the area safely and comfortably, while supporting more sustainable and active travel choices.

The scheme also delivered wider improvements around the crossing, including changes to parking and loading arrangements to better serve local businesses and road users.

This new crossing supports the Mayor of London's Vision Zero commitment to eliminate death and serious injuries from London's transport network by 2041. It also contributes to Enfield Council's wider ambitions to create safer streets and encourage healthier, more sustainable ways to travel.

The crossing has been delivered through Enfield Council's Shaping Edmonton programme, funded by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government. Shaping Edmonton is helping to create a greener, healthier and more inclusive Edmonton, where everyone feels welcome, represented and able to thrive.

We would like to thank residents, businesses and road users for their patience throughout the construction period while this project was delivered.

Plans for the refurbishment of Angel Community Centre continue to develop, supporting a more vibrant and welcoming space for the community.

These plans are being shaped by ongoing conversations with people who use and care about the centre.

Local residents are invited to take part in a creative fabric collage workshop and help create a community tapestry from 1pm to 2.30pm on Thursday 30 July.

A family-friendly film screening will follow from 3pm–5pm, with free popcorn and refreshments available.

This builds on earlier activity at the centre, including film screenings held in December, which explored how the space could support more creative, community-led events. The workshop will continue these conversations, helping to generate ideas and inspiration for future community use of the centre. Refurbishment works at Angel Community Centre are planned to begin in autumn and are expected to be completed in early 2027.
